Diane Milar, RDH MA: No relevant disclosure to display
This immersive, hands-on course is designed to refine your scaling techniques while safeguarding your long-term health. Participants will scale all four quadrants with an emphasis on both clinical precision and ergonomic protection. State-of-the-art sharpen-free instruments will be utilized during the workshop.
Using a typodont model mounted on a portable simulation unit, attendees will practice advanced and reinforced instrumentation techniques to remove calculus effectively and with minimal effort. Instruction will be supported by visual demonstrations—including video clips and clinical photos—to deepen understanding and reinforce skill application.
Throughout the workshop, participants will receive state-of-the-art guidance on instrumentation techniques and ergonomic principles to enhance clinical performance, reduce fatigue, and prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders. These techniques enhance power, precision, and prevention while practicing.
The workshop offers a chance for dental hygienists to connect, share experiences, and learn together.
Each attendee will receive Diane's book: “Reinforced Periodontal Instrumentation and Ergonomics for the Dental Care Provider" as a reference.
Kevin Ohashi Lopez will assist Ms. Millar in this workshop.
Demonstrate and apply both conventional and reinforced scaling techniques effectively in all four quadrants to enhance scaling, precision, power, and protection.
Utilize extraoral, intraoral, opposite-arch, and reinforced fulcrums to enhance precision scaling, increased lateral pressure and ergonomic safety.
Identify strategies to protect the hands, wrists, arms, shoulders, neck, and back during clinical procedures to reduce the risk of pain and long-term musculoskeletal injuries.
