Dr. Michael DeFee is a leading voice in digitally driven restorative dentistry and one of the driving forces behind the evolution of clinical–lab collaboration in the modern era. As Co-Founder of both MOD Design Services and The MOD Institute, he has helped build one of the most advanced digital dentistry ecosystems in the country—uniting education, design, and fabrication to support clinicians in delivering predictable, high-quality comprehensive care.
Dr. DeFee’s clinical focus centers on fully integrated digital workflows, 3D printing applications, and data-driven treatment planning for esthetic, implant, and full-arch dentistry. He is a Level 3 exocad and exoplan trainer, with advanced expertise in digital design, surgical planning, and the integration of CAD/CAM tools into daily clinical practice. His work emphasizes precision through shared digital records, advanced software protocols, and additive manufacturing, enabling clinicians and laboratories to operate from a unified digital plan that strengthens outcomes and reduces variability.
Through MOD Design Services, he oversees a high-performance full service digital laboratory team that supports dentists worldwide with restorative, implant, and full-arch design and fabrication solutions. At The MOD Institute, he leads the development of cutting-edge educational programs that teach clinicians how to implement digital workflows, leverage 3D printing, and create a truly collaborative pipeline between the operatory and the laboratory.
