A native of Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Gary DeWood earned his DDS in 1980 and later earned his MS from The University of Toledo College of Medicine in 2004. He left full-time private practice in 2003 to serve as Clinical Director at The Pankey Institute, a position he held until 2008. As a founding member of Spear Education, he served in multiple roles over the next 15 years until the company was acquired by a venture capital firm in 2023. Today he maintains a private practice in Glendale, Arizona, serves as Director of Essentials at The Pankey Institute, and lectures extensively throughout the United States. He is also a principal in Global Diagnosis Education, a bi-monthly online study club for dentists “looking to be confused at a higher level.” Dr. DeWood lives in Cave Creek, Arizona, with his wife of 47 years, Dr. Cheryl DeWood.
