Patient-centered care is not new. It is our “why”. Current research supports coupling conventional therapy with innovative products that can enhance clinical care and set the stage for improved health outcomes.
Pathogenic biofilms play a huge role in the development and exacerbation of inflammatory periodontal disease. Dysbiotic biofilm communities are difficult to disrupt and eradicate. For years, clinicians have searched for ways to make professional debridement easier and more effective. Novel therapies such as desiccation technology provide a new option to effectively treat and eradicate pathogenic biofilm communities.
Desiccation therapy, using a sulfonated compound, is an effective tool that can be used in a wide range of clinical challenges. The desiccation process affects how deposits attach to a surface microscopically. It disrupts and destroys biofilm EPS and polymicrobial communities. Effective desiccation therapy results in a coagulated gelatinized mass of denatured calculus, necrotic tissue, and blood that is easier to remove with conventional nonsurgical periodontal debridement techniques.
Fee: October-December: $90 January-February: $130
Learning Objectives:
Identify how periodontal pathogens create and support a dysbiotic biofilm community and understand the role of microbial persisters in chronic oral infections.
Examine the role of desiccation therapy in biofilm dysregulation, debris removal, and hemostasis and learn how to recreate a thriving, sustainable, healthy oral microbiome.
Learn how desiccation therapy improves clinical outcomes, speeds up healing, improves patient comfort, reduces clinician MSD stresses, and adds a valuable, billable clinical service in to the treatment plan.
